GEN CON GAMES SPECTACULAR

Ian Houlihan who used to run the Auran charity weekend, is involved in a games expo at Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.  ItÕs the same weekend as Coominya Christmas in July (Sunday 6th) which is an important tournament on our calendar.  We could play on the Saturday, 5th July, if enough people want to.  Ian says that the entry would be about $24, no lunch and parking would be an extra cost and Scrabble Queensland would have to pay all expenses.  Failing that, we could man a booth in the merchantsÕ hall, play a demonstration game and hand out information sheets.  WeÕd probably get more exposure doing that rather than joining them for a tournament.  Let your club organiser know if you are eager to play in the Gen Con Games.

MINI  COASTAL  SAFARI

Mattel has already given us funding to run tournaments along the coast.  Their funding would pay for the fuel costs, and I am pretty sure that weÕd be able to arrange some billets for scrabblers who will join in.  At the moment, weÕre thinking of mid-April.  ItÕd be up to Rockhampton for a tournament on a Friday, Gladstone on Saturday, Bargara (or Bundaberg) on Sunday, and perhaps Maryborough on Monday.  ThereÕd be a rated tournament for experienced scrabblers, and unrated for raw beginners.  Three or four people in a car, depending on space, might result in a happy group of us bringing scrabble to the provinces.  I shall be going with two others in the car so let me know if you want to make up a group in another car or two or three.
